Interview with Bishop Christophe Zoa
Charisma: My Lord, how did you encounter the Catholic Charismatic Renewal and can you tell us how you progressed in it?
Bishop Christophe Zoa: I must say my experience of the Renewal goes back a long time before my priesthood. I heard it spoken about, not only during my journey with it in my parish of origin (Nkolbisson) but also when I was a student in the major seminary thanks to seminary comrades who were leading the CCR. My experience became more intense and personal when I was ordained priest. As an assistant priest in Melen Parish I could then accompany the CCR as a pastoral leader of the Renewal groups. It is then that my experience of the Renewal was going to grow through the years of my ministry (24 years as priest and 07 as bishop). Lastly, in particular, I lived the grace of the Renewal more personally since five years ago when I was appointed the national chaplain of the Renewal. And therefore, I became a very active member of the Renewal with many preoccupations to give this movement some reflection concerning its origins, its theology and especially its pastoral domain.
Pope Francis’ homily at pentecost mass 2013
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Today we contemplate and re-live in the liturgy the outpouring of the Holy Spirit sent by the risen Christ upon his Church; an event of grace which filled the Upper Room in Jerusalem and then spread throughout the world.
But what happened on that day, so distant from us and yet so close as to touch the very depths of our hearts? Luke gives us the answer in the passage of the Acts of the Apostles which we have heard (2:1-11). The evangelist brings us back to Jerusalem, to the Upper Room where the apostles were gathered. The first element which draws our attention is the sound which suddenly came from heaven like the rush of a violent wind, and filled the house; then the tongues as of fire which divided and came to rest on each of the apostles.
